Welcome to New Church
Planting of the American Baptist Churches of the South. We
pray that God will direct you as you begin the journey for
Planting a New Church.
Plan,
Place, and Planter
For New Church Planting there are three main
components to planting a healthy church; Plan, Place,
and Planter. We have come to understand that if there
is a weakness in any of these three points, the new church
has great difficulty in surviving.
The plan is
contingent upon your support committee, understanding what
makes a healthy new church plant, developing a strategy for
planting, outreach, leadership development, vision casting
and other components. Without the support networks in place
it will be difficult and to plant. This means an existing ABCOTS
church must be supporting your work and support may mean a
number of different methods.
The place is
the next vital component for a healthy new plant. How do you
know if your chosen community is receptive to a new church
plant? Demographic information, drive-by surveys, talking with
people in the community, phone calls, door to door visits and
other modes of investigation are highly important.
The planter is
where you come in. You can do this only by being assured of
God's call. Have you ever started anything new? Have you ever
started a business or started a ministry? Some people are just
not cut out to do something new. How do you respond to the
answer no? You will have to ask many people to become involved
in what you are doing and rejection is going to happen 9 out
of 10 times. How do you handle rejection? If this is something
that you feel God has called you to do then I would encourage
you to begin the application process, knowing that it will
not be accomplished quickly and will be seen as a journey where
we will all work to accomplish God’s will over time.

Areas. Each Area in ABCOTS has a New
Church Planting Committee and Chair Person. For a list
of those chair people, see the attached link. If you are interested
in planting a new church in those particular areas, you will
need to talk with the Chair people for new church planting
in the Area.
